Castle of Agia Mavra
The imposing Castle of Agia Mavra overlooks the harbor of Lefkada, guarding centuries of history and memories. Built in the 14th century by the Venetians, the castle testifies to the strategic importance of the island in the Ionian Sea. Over the centuries, it passed into the hands of successive conquerors — Venetians, Ottomans, and Venetians again — who reinforced and transformed it into a significant fortress.
Walking along its walls, you feel the stones transporting you to a time filled with wars, legends, and heroism. It is said that during a siege, the defenders repelled the attackers using local mysterious herbs that gave them strength and endurance, making them seem almost invincible.

Monastery of Saint John Rodaki
Located in Rodaki, this unique monastery was built in the 17th century on the foundations of an ancient Doric temple dedicated to Demeter. Pagan and Christian elements blend harmoniously: the altar stands on an ancient column, and architectural fragments decorate the courtyard. Tradition says that couples praying here were blessed with children. The view of Vasiliki and the mountains is breathtaking.

Prehistoric Tombs in Nydri
Just south of Nydri lie important archaeological remains: tombs and ruins dating back to the 3rd millennium BCE (Early Helladic period). German archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld excavated the site in the early 20th century and was amazed by the wealth of the discoveries. Many artifacts are now housed in the Archaeological Museum of Lefkada.

Choirospilia Cave in Evgyros
South of the village of Evgyros, a cave revealed traces of Neolithic human activity. Archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld believed it could be linked to the myth of Eumaeus, the swineherd from the Odyssey. The name “Choirospilia” (Pig Cave) reflects this legend. A destination full of mystery and adventure.
