Just south of Nydri lie important archaeological remains: tombs and ruins dating back to the 3rd millennium BCE (Early Helladic period). Findings suggest a structured society, possibly with centralized governance. German archaeologist Wilhelm Dörpfeld excavated the site in the early 20th century and was amazed by the wealth of the discoveries.
